A Tale of Two Shirts

Hello friends! It is starting to feel like autumn, or at least it does in the morning and the evenings here, during the day it's still up for debate.

Like so many others, autumn is my absolute favorite. I love the colors, wearing layers, and the holidays that this time of year.

With that said, I have two newly created long sleeve knits to share with you!

This first one honestly had no pattern whatsoever. And barely a plan if I'm being completely honest. I had intended to make more of sweetheart neck peplum with waterfall sleeves originally. I somehow came across a photo of an old Queen Anne neckline and changed the whole design from there, eliminating the peplum for more versatility, and the waterfall sleeves for the upcoming season. I based the body off a well loved shirt in my closet, and added on sleeves long enough cover my palms.

It came together incredibly fast, like in one afternoon I had the whole thing put together with some leftover knit from another project and the next day I finished all the hand stitching. I did hand fell the neck facing to the interior using the smallest stitches I could manage, and you can't see it from the outside so success!

The second shirt I made was definitely more of an impulse thing for sure. I was foolishly flipping through the latest Joann ad 2 weeks ago and saw mushroom fabric which of course I needed RIGHT NOW to make something to push all my others projects off immediately. I got 2 yards of it and used up most of that making this shirt. A lot of that had to do with setting the pattern correctly, if I had been able to flip the sleeves around I think I would have had more leftover.

I used the sleeves from Simplicity 8694, option D which is the lovely bishop sleeve with a tie at the wrist. I ended up just felling down the cutout edge instead of the bound edge, which I prefer, it looks less obvious to me. I based the body of this shirt on another, slightly more fitted shirt. I like bishop sleeves with a more fitted bodice, it looks more polished to me. Although it's covered in mushrooms so I don't know how polished I can really get!

I really like how both of these came out, I am so excited to incorporate them into my autumn wardrobe this year. I typically wear my shirts to death, so it's nice to have something fresh to cycle in to give the others a bit of a break.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks project, I have some knits coming up for you for next week, assuming my hands don't fall off in the meantime. In the meantime though friends, it's back to the sewing room.
