Retro 50's Look
I am so excited to share the cuteness I have in my closet friends!
This week, I wanted to showcase a pattern that is so adorable and is easy to modify. I started out with the Lamour Dress from Charm Patterns by Gertie Hersch. Even if you don't buy patterns from Charm, I encourage you to check out her YouTube channel. She has in depth tutorials there that are practical and informative.
I loved the little ruff that is on the pencil skirt version but personally, I'm more of a circle skirt type of lady. I changed the basic front to overlap and added the ruff to the side seam, tucking in pockets behind it and sandwiched between the overlapping layers on the other side. I had run out of fabric by this point and just made a simple waist and back zipper and she is ready to go!
This was a simple quilting cotton I got on sale from JoAnn a while ago with this exact project in mind. I had meant to make it a strapless dress but honestly a skirt is definitely more practical for me anyway.
The sweater is actually something I made too! This is the Rizzo Sweater from Poison Grrls and honestly a fall/spring favorite. It looks exactly like a sweater Marilyn Monroe wore and it is seriously the softest thing ever. I made it in a lightweight cashmere blend wool from Knit Picks and it came together fairly quickly, maybe a month, and I am not the speediest with those needles.
I have some dresses and separates coming up and can't wait to finish them and share with you! Until then, it's back to the sewing room friends!
